Ab 1914 wurde in den Räumen des heutigen Restaurants gebacken und die jetzigen Bistroräume waren die Verkaufsräume der Bäckerei Gehring. Der Sohn des Bäckermeisters, Werner Gehring, eröffnete 1955 hier die Gehrings Bierstube , später dann in Gehrings Bierstube Krawattendiele und 1962 dann in Kajüte umgetauft. Hier wurde unter anderem im Jahre 1960 nachweislich der Saure Paul aus der Taufe gehoben. Besonders Werner Gehring stand für Originalität und weitere Schnapsideen.
